Great tips, Zac! I don't deny myself anything when it comes to the foods I like but I'm good about not drinking much soda/alcohol, so I'm sure that helps. I could definitely step up my activity level though!

If this was a workout plan or a trendy diet plan, I would probably start by saying something cheesy and uplifting... "YOU CAN DO IT!!!!” Good thing it is not. I have zero idea what you “can” or “can’t” do, but it is fair to say "YOU CAN PROBABLY DO IT" just doesn't sound like something worth putting on a motivational T-Shirt... I could be wrong.
I thought I would share my general plan to be a much healthier person. My plan is rather basic, but simplicity can be bliss, and a general state of bliss is what I am shooting for… take it or leave it. Or just take some of it, cause that really sums the whole plan up. This may be alarming. It is somewhat revolutionary. Don't freakout.
The basic concept is... eat the same stuff you always eat, but in the correct portions. I have almost zero interest in dieting. Eating cardboard for the benefit of a healthier, longer life is just not for me. Learning a new skill? Now that is something I can get excited about, and as far as skills go, I have never known when to stop eating.
At the very end of last year I decided I would try and learn not how to eat better, but how to eat less (technically less is usually better for you, but that is not the point). In the effort to acquire the skill of moderation, I added an app to my daily routine and started inputting everything I ate to the best of my ability.
NOTE: Homemade meals, though generally better for you can be hard to nail down the calories on, but you do what you can and error on the side of less food.
Of the millions of apps that will count calories and exercise (take your pick), I chose to use Lose It.
Here is my basic formula for success.
According to my App since December 29th I have lost 29 lbs. Give it a shot!
Great tips, Zac! I don't deny myself anything when it comes to the foods I like but I'm good about not drinking much soda/alcohol, so I'm sure that helps. I could definitely step up my activity level though!

Losing weight is hard for sure. But calorie counting is definitely the way to go. it's not about giving up the things you like, its about eating things in moderation.

After some years of experience, I've come up with the same thought. I've tried to cut some kinds of food and it wasn't good. So now I know that being radical in all aspects of your life is not good. Eating everything you like in less quantity and more often throughout the day is the key. You're in the right way! :)

Good for you!
But hey, you don't have to eat cardboard to be lean and healthy hahaha
If you're interested, take a look on "low carb high fat" way of life. You might get surprised with all the yummy and healthy food you can eat. It can do wonders for your health. The food we eat can be our best medicine. And our worst drug too...
Good luck on your journey!!

Congratulations! I had lost 35 pounds doing 21 Day Fix. Unfortunately, my depression took over and I gained most of the weight back. Now I can't seem to find the motivation to get back to being healthy.

This is what works for me as well. After baby number 8 I'm back to eating in moderation, running and letting Jillian Michaels kick my butt through a screen a few times a week.

You *would* post this right after I got home from an all-inclusive vacation at a Puerto Vallarta resort,...where the temptations are limitless! (...Now I'm really feeling guilty for tweeting about Peeps flavored Oreos just a while ago...)
29 pounds! Holy cannoli! Anyway, everything in moderation plus upping the exercise sounds like a good plan. We eat pretty healthy most of the time, though we have birthday cake (and those blasted Oreos) in the house right now... I think I'm going to have to check out that app. :)
Thanks for posting and good for you, Zac!

Thats exactly what im doing since last year. Homemade meals, cut out most of ultra processed food but if i want to eat something i do it, just not in excess. I tried every possible diet and they didn't work for me but this seams to be working out. I just need to get on track on the exercise part!
Congrats on your 29lbs lost!

Congrats, Zac! Taking care of yourself is one of the hardest things to do. You should be very proud! Los it is a great app! I used it for a while and have thought about going back to it.
I have been working out 5 days a week including a Saturday boot camp. I have lost about 35lbs in a little less than a year. But the biggest transformation is in the inches I have lost. The scale isn't always the enemy, even though I do loathe it most the time. I actually have started a bit of a reset today. No coffee stop at Wawa on the way to work and attempting no caffeine at all. Hard because sweet tea is the house wine of the south.
Good luck on your continued journey :)

Good for you, Zac! So that means no more P96 and puking on your living room floor? lol Good times on the island!

Congratulations on finding something that works for you! Simpler is always better; even tracking makes me absolutely crazy so I refuse. Instead, I'm with Cecilia about low carb high fat; I've been eating that way since October and have lost twenty-two pounds with spotty exercise and no other real effort. It's a good feeling when jeans that used to dig now need a belt instead.

Diets and exercise are two things I am not good at however, I have found that stretching while watching my favorite TV program (let's be honest, it's multiple programs) has worked just enough for what I need it to. More fruit, more vegetables, more water, and less chips and dip are my goals for the next few months.

I love so much that you posted this today! I just came back from my first every yoga class, I signed up for a gym membership last week and it's the first one I've ever had due to being too embarrassed or intimidated to ever go before. My friend (a fellow fan!) and I have been holding each other accountable on our Fitness app and you are SO right, moderation and portion control seem to be the way to go rather than making yourself insane from being deprived. Congrats on your progress! Hoping I have the same success as you in a couple of months.

Good work, mate! I'm challenging myself to be lighter and stronger for the sake of improving some of my dance skillzzz.
I've lost almost 50kg (I think that's about 110 pound) in the past 6 years, and it's allowed me so many more opportunities to do things. I couldn't even fly properly before, as fitting in an airplane seat was difficult. But there is nothing easy about losing serious weight!!

Also, PLEASE be careful about using / promoting a calorie-restrictive diet and lifestyle, which is what this is.
Honestly, eating LESS is no healthier for you if you are still eating things that are bad for you. You can eat 3 donuts a day, but if that is all you eat and you are active enough, you will still lose weight. Calorie-restriction is a slippery slope to anorexia. I know. When in college I did this line of thinking. Eat the same, just less. I ended up in the hospital. I could have died because my body wasnt getting enough of what it needed. Because i couldnt wfford the calories.
Im glad you feel better about yourself and congrats, just be careful

Great tips Zac!! Congrats on your progress! I've been to a dietician and he basically told me that portion is the key to success, and we should not deprive ourselves from food we love because it will cause you to fall off track and most likely go back to poor eating habits. He pulled out a candy bar and told me I could have it just ever so often and as long as I'm working out too.
So I know you've done Insanity lol ( i died too, I also think it's too hard on the knees and feet with the intense jumping) ...but what other kinds of exercise do you do?

Zac, It's so cool that you are doing something to be healthier and that it's working. The only thing I would add to your awesome way of loosing weight and being healthier is some exercise/workout. Nothing major tho. It could be something you would have fun with or something. Lol!
