HOP JAM ANNOUNCES MUSICAL LINEUP!

Apr 16, 2018 | HANSON

We’re excited to announce our 2018 Hop Jam musical lineup!

Manchester Orchestra will make their long overdue return to Tulsa leading an eclectic day of music, along with Nada Surf, Ra Ra Riot, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, and more, on the festival’s main stage. The full music lineup will again feature an all-ages free concert on 2 stages and will include the winner of the Awesome Music Opening Band Contest winner, who will open the show. Runners up in the statewide contest will perform on the Park Stage. If you’re a local artist and you would like to participate, you have just a few more days to submit your much before April 20th at Tulsaworld.com/AwesomeMusicContest.

The Craft Beer portion of the event will feature more than 90 breweries from 15 states and 5 countries including our own Hanson Brothers Beer alongside Oklahoma favorites Marshall, COOP and American Solera, leading US craft brewers Dogfish Head, Jolly Pumpkin, Destihl and Evil Twin, and international brewers including Dieu du Ciel, Omnipollo, To Øl and many more. Some of the special guest brewers will also take part in the Hop Talks panels, where you will get to hear from them directly about their philosophy and vision.

It’s hard to believe this is our 5th year of The Hop Jam! Since the festival began, we are proud to have supported the Community Food Bank Of Eastern Oklahoma through the raffle of a special custom Hop Guitar, which has so far provided for 140,000 meals. You can purchase tickets for this year’s guitar online and onsite.

Event tickets are available online now, with a variety of offerings from beer tasting to VIP options including early entry, access to the Hop Talks panels and a special VIP lounge offering food and select craft beers. Also on offer is a Music VIP ticket for all of you discerning music fans, which features a private viewing platform, indoor amenities, food and select craft beers.

We are again partnering with Oklahoma favorites the McNellie’s Group to host the beer festival. We both share an interest in cultivating the craft beer community and fostering world-class events in the state.

I cant believe you re not playing and that you have waited so long to announce it. Luckyly I havent bought tickets for hop jam or i would have felt angrier than Im feeling right know... if i had known before hand I think I would have chosen another event since one of the reasons of going to Tulsa all the way from Argentina was the final event at hop jam. Anyway , Im sure nobody cares about what I say so see you in tulsa then, but please launch more tickets for the events , they run out so fast that I didnt have the chance to buy some.

I agree with Marianela!  Although I am from tulsa it makes me mad that you guys know that there are people that do come from all around the world just to see you guys and you wait so long to announce that you aren’t even going to be playing at your own event? You know that there are fans that come from all around the world to see you guys and spend time with you for Hanson day weekend and you choose tiny venues that sell out quickly. And we already pay to be members of the website and many people have to pay to travel to tulsa and pay for their hotels and everything else and you’re still going to charge them to go to the events?? I think you guys need to rethink the way you do Hanson day weekend and hop jam because it’s not fair.

They had said that the hop jam would be an event that they would not play every year so I wouldn't ever consider it a sure thing. I think most of us would prefer if they played it since we'll already be there, but it is what it is. As far as charging for events at HDay, I imagine that there is costs associated with having staff there for events, renting out the locations, etc.  Tulsa loves Hanson but I am not sure they love them enough to just let them use whatever buildings and facilities they want at no charge.  I think the prices are reasonable for the activities and if I didn't I wouldn't buy a ticket (ie Game Night)

I agree with Katie.  They made it clear a long time ago that The Hop Jam was a celebration of beer and music (not necessarily *their* music), and they don't consider it a 'Hanson' event.  This isn't the first year that they didn't headline, so everyone should have been prepared for that possibility.  Besides, the fans who come to Tulsa from around the world are coming for Hanson Day activities where there are *always* Hanson concerts.  As Katie said, it costs money to rent venues for activities.  Hanson does a lot for their community and it's possible that they get some kind of a discount, but I'm sure nothing is free...

Also, paying for travel to Tulsa and any expenses incurred there is a choice people make.  They are aware of the costs before the trip and they still do it.  Nobody is forcing them.

I think they should play that event as they are the PRIMARY reason people attend.  However, I understand the focus on other musical acts.  HOWEVER, it is completely lame to wait until so close to the event to announce the lineup, and more importantly push package sales so much while not disclosing the lineup....

Don't know who any of those bands are and I'm bummed Hanson isn't playing but I love live music and beer so it should still be fun anyways.

I'm sure we all agree that we would love it if Hanson played every year, but- its their brain child, and you have to consider the large scale mindset. There are thousands and thousands of people that come every year, for different reasons, and im sure would appreciate seeing different bands, and not the same ones every year. (IE there are a lot more people that attend that arnt necessarily Hanson fans than those that are) It could almost come off the wrong way -self centered like--, like hey guys we have this awesome beer and music festival we created, and we will headline it every year-that's just not who the guys are! To echo other people's points, this is not a "Hanson" music festival. And if you were only going on the premises that they would be headlining, you are missing the point of what Hop Jam is and what it's about- I already planned on going because I love beer, and I love music, and Hanson playing would have just been a bonus, and not playing isn't a deal breaker. They do so much awesome things all throughout the year(Hanson Day, String Theory, ) and lately its just been fans disappointed because they didn't do this, or didn't come to their town, etc. etc. etc. Can we maybe be thankful to be fans of the most accessible to their fans and awesome band I know?

Absolutely, and they have said exactly that.  Why not be open minded?  You could discover you really like one of the featured bands.  Hanson might even surprise you and hop on stage to join one of them for a song...  It's happened before!

I'm not going to Tulsa this year, but I never expected them to play the Hop Jam this year. It just seemed highly unlikely all along. Like others said, Hanson always stated this festival wasn't going to be about Hanson, but craft beer and music and the Tulsa community in general. I'm surprised people should still feel disappointed this year, after seeing they don't play each year. It's basically just a fun bonus and opportunity for Hanson fans that it coincides with the HDay weekend.

I went the first three years, and while 2014 and 2015 were amazing with Hanson closing the night, I still had just as great time in 2016. You just have to accept Hanson are the festival organizers, but not the focus of the event. I hope people will give it a chance despite any initial disappointment. Of course liking beer will help a lot, but the free concerts alone are worth it.

I am honestly not disappointed.  I am thrilled to get to see the guys play Saturday night, and I'm also super excited about Hop Jam (and okay with it being less Hanson-centric).  Bonus, getting to fly home Sunday night and avoid taking another day off from work...

I just wanted to let you know that Manchester Orchestra is opening for Arcade Fire on the main stage (American Family Insurance Amphitheater) at Summerfest - Milwaukee this year.  The tickets start out at over $60 (not including fees), and those are for grass seats, wayyy in the back...  You're seeing them for free at The Hop Jam!  Granted, they're not the headliner, but often opening bands are comparable to the main attraction.

I'm not going to HDay/Hop Jam, but for anyone who is, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors are fantastic! Their 2nd most recent album, Medicine, is my fave. I would recommend listening to American Beauty, The Last Thing We Do, Heartbreak, and then on their other records Fire & Dynamite, Wild World, Live Forever and Good Light to get a sense of their sound. He and his wife also put out duet earlier this year that I really like called You and Me.

When I go next year I am Definitely going to hop jam because it’s going to be my first time and  once in a lifetime so I’m going to be pretty excited for next year even if they don’t play I will still have fun.

Will you guys consider opening up the Opening Band Contest to nationwide contestants again in the future? I have a few great bands in mind but they're up in Milwaukee, but HopJam would be amazing exposure! I know you have to draw a line somewhere but just posing the question in case!

I remember listening Nada Surf in the soundtrack of "The OC", I didn't search more at that time - maybe because the internet acess was extremely slow - but now that I remembered of this band I'm curious to hear more songs.

Can’t wait for my first hip jam and there’s couldn’t be a better line up! Huge fan of Nada Surf and Manchester Orchestra and looking forward to discovering new bands as well!

Hop jam - not hip jam lol auto correct, although I’m sure it will be “hip” haha

I am so glad I went to Tulsa last year to see you perform at the Hop Jam! If I had gone this year then I would have still enjoyed the Hop Jam as it was an AWESOME atmosphere, everyone lining up for beers and the live music was great!

Does anyone know if we can vote more then once for the opening bands? There is more then a couple bands I'd like to hear opening at the festival.

"Does anyone know if we can vote more then once for the opening bands?"

It looks like you can vote once per day (for one band).  I didn't see any actual rules posted anywhere, but when I tried to vote for a second band the button said CHANGE YOUR VOTE.

Posted Apr 30, 2018   07:49:31 AM

The "change your vote" showed up for me also. I guess I will have to decide if I should keep voting for the same band or vote for a couple other artists I like a few times before  the deadline gets here.
