We hope you had an amazing Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family.
I wanted to share with you the simple recipe for our special simple cinnamon and sugar holiday donuts, which you can cook along with me during our livestreamming “Finally It’s Christmas” special.
The recipe is easy and fun to make, and when you are all finished you will have some delicious doughy goodness to continue the holiday weekend festivities.
See you in the kitchen! - TH
Old-Fashioned Cake Doughnuts
• 1 cup sugar
• 4 teaspoons baking powder
• 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
• 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
• 2 eggs
• 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
• 1 cup milk
• 4 cups flour (plus a little more if dough is sticky)
• oil (for frying)
• cinnamon sugar, icing, chocolate, sprinkles etc to decorate
Makes 14
• In a large bowl mix the sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg.
• Add eggs, milk and melted butter. Beat well.
• Add 3 cups of the flour, beating until blended. Add one more cup of flour and beat well. The dough should be soft and sticky but firm enough to handle. If you feel its necessary, add up to 1/2 cup more flour.
• Cover with plastic wrap and chill for at least one hour.
• Remove your dough from the fridge and begin heating about 1" of oil to 360F in a large metal skillet.
• Working half the dough at a time, roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2" thickness. Cut out circles using a doughnut cutter or large biscuit or cookie cutter, and a smaller circle for the center.
• Gently drop the doughnuts in batches into the hot oil. Flip them over as they puff and turn them a couple more times as they cook. They will take about 2-3 minutes in total and will be lovely and golden brown all over.
• Remove from the oil and set them on paper towels.
• Douse them with cinnamon sugar, icing, chocolate, dip in sprinkles etc.
Mmmm these sounds great! Thanks for posting the recipe! :)

Unfortunately, I can not cook anything except Ramen noodles, a grilled cheese, and brownies, so I won’t be cooking tomorrow. On the other hand, I am extremely excited for the livestream, I can not wait to hear Hanson sing Christmas songs tomorrow!

I love home made doughnuts, but there is entirely too much food in the house right now (including pie) for me to add these fried confections to the mix. ...If I did, I'd have to buy an entire new wardrobe before Christmas! The recipe looks very much like one I have used. You should try Oliebollen (Dutch Doughnuts) sometime. They're yummy, too! Looking forward to the stream tomorrow! :)
The recipe looks very similar to one I sometimes use. - See more at: https://hanson.net/blog/old-fashioned-cake-doughnuts#sthash.YeOviWZ7.dpuf

Yum, these sound delicious! I am moving on Sunday, so tomorrow will be spent doing last minute packing and loading up the u-haul. I hope this livestream will be looped all week, as I probably won't have internet until Tuesday or Wednesday.

I don't want to be distracted during the alive stream by trying to bake but maybe I will try it at a later time. They sound really tasty.

I don't think I could get to make this right away, considering I have a birthday cake to bake and have ready for Sunday, but I might try this recipe some time later. Sounds yummy!
