In the late 90’s Hanson were constantly played on the radio. The boys are now back with new hits.

The first thing that strikes me, when I arrive at the Phoenix hotel in Copenhagen, is the impatient, crazy girls by the windows. They are about 20 years of age, but push each other up against the windows like little girls, hoping to catch a glimpse of the 3 guys from Hanson, who has smiled to them from their bedroom walls throughout their teenage years. Their idols are now for the first time visiting Denmark and they have a brand new album “Underneath” up their sleeves, which the world has already accepted greatly.

Close to the guys
Sitting opposite me are 3 adult guys, who have set countless girl-hearts on fire. The neat, delicate facial features that once told about their family bondings are long gone and the brothers have now gotten each of their own distinctive character. Isaac and Zac have said goodbye to the long hair, while Taylor has kept a little of the length - Because with a new album comes a new image? Or how is it really, when your name is Hanson? “Our image is 3 guys who writes music and are passionate about what we’re doing. It doesn’t really matter what we look like. One day we feel like wearing leather pants, the next day, jeans and a scarf” says Taylor and brother Isaac continues: “I don’t want an image. I just want to be myself. And I feel that I have always been myself. I have always had a weakness for music and I’ve always tried to get my feelings into it.”

Taylor’s inner tiger
Taylor is sitting quietly next to his dominating older brother Isaac and is cuddling up in a big, warm sweater. The red scarf around his neck makes the blue eyes lighten up on an elsewhere cold and boring day. An uncountable number of girls have fallen for this charm and you are tempted to ask, if this sweet and sensitive guy never gets really angry? “Once we played on a very low scene, where there weren’t any security guards. All of a sudden there was this guy, who had dressed up and put on lipstick. He jumped on the stage and tried to kiss me. I turned against him, kicked him in the crotch and pushed him down from the stage” says Taylor and continues: “A few songs after, the atmosphere got really tense. Fans were trying to jump on the stage. They pushed and tried to steal our stuff and clothes and they just wouldn’t stop. It ended with us leaving. We ran off the stage, jumped into cars, which were driving us to our tourbus, while we were followed by crazy fans. That’s the only show we have ever cut short!”

Married, but free
Taylor is among the fans better known as the hot one and there’s no doubt about him being the one of the brothers, who has melted the most hearts. A lot has happened since the happy MMMBop-days: The ring on his finger tells about the dreamgirl, who has given him a son, who has just turned 2 years old. But does this mean that the girls look at him differently? “I hope so. There is a special connection between musicians and fans where it doesn’t really matter if you’re married or not. I keep writing music for them and that’s why I’m still special in their eyes, but I hope that they respect me in a different way now. The marriage and my son doesn’t hold me back in any way. They are actually a great source of inspiration to our music.”

Hanson Day
The stores have everything from T-shirts to hats, scarves and candles with Hanson on it. Most people already know this, but it is very few people who has heard about Hanson Day: It is the 6th of May and originally it was the governor in their home-state who named the day, to celebrate the brother’s success and today it is a big event for fans worldwide. The brothers agree on how the day should be spent. Taylor: “Everybody should take a day off from their jobs and then they should do something creative, one way or another.” Isaac: “It should be a day full of music. A day where you either create something yourself or just discover something new. It could for example be that you discover a completely new band that you like. Most importantly, it should be a day where you get inspired!”
