Emma, if someone had said that one day you would sing with Hanson, of whom you have always been a fan, how would you have reacted?
Emma: Five years ago I would have had a heart attack. Nowadays I am still a super-fan of their music but I have learned to appreciate it without hysteria. What is great is that they appreciate my music - since they were an influence on me. It is a little thanks to them that I really wanted to do music from the day I heard Hanson’s songs.

When did you become a fan of Hanson?
Emma: The first time I heard “MmmBop” I was immediately hooked. What I liked most why that they were around my age and this was super-punchy pop/rock… At that time I was rebelling against my parents because I waned to do music and Hanson were my pretext. I used to say: “But look at them, they are doing it!” I bought their album and then I followed everything they did, I went to see them in concert…

Was your interest purely musical?
Emma: Of course (laughs)! I was a serious fan. If I look hard I think I can find the folders where I filed away articles about them. For me it was an escape route from daily life, which wasn‘t so cool. At that time I was a little bulimic and they were very important to me. Because things weren’t so good I listened to their music, I wrote songs and I travelled through their adventures.

When you met them, were they how you imagined?
Emma: They were really friendly. It was very cool. It was a little bit special because I met them in their hotel, just after a concert in London. My manager had found tickets and took advantage of it to announce to me that he had a project with Hanson. I couldn’t believe my ears!

And you, boys did something happen immediately with Emma?
Isaac: She made a great impression on me from the first moment we met.
Taylor: It was instantaneous. Emma has a very appealing personality - she has got something a really special something. When you lead a life like ours, travelling so much around the world, you learn to judge people at first sight. With Emma, we were all instantly attracted.
Isaac: Yes, and we hadn’t even heard her disc! Afterwards when we had listened to it, we were even more convinced that we could do something good together. Her album is great because she doesn’t hesitate about doing the music she wants. Nowadays, many artists are trapped in a genre where they let people dictate what they have to sing. Not Emma.

When did you work on the duet where Emma sings with Isaac?
Isaac: Emma and I spoke a lot by e-mail and on the phone. In fact I wasn’t quite sure the French lyrics were correct. Emma was able to improve the words and give them a romantic dimension.
Emma: I sing parts in English and Isaac sings parts in French. At first we couldn’t understand anything he said! That was so funny! When I corrected his pronunciation of the French “r”, he said he found that so sexy! When I made my girlfriends listen to the song, they found it really cute.

It’s a love song. People will think there is something between Isaac and Emma…
Zac: To be honest, we all have the hots for Emma!
Emma: The song speaks of two people, who meet and appreciate each other. It’s exactly what happened with us. But there’s nothing between us but respect. It is true that Hanson is the biggest love story in my life!
Isaac: I sing and not Taylor or Zac, because I wrote the song. That’s all.
Emma: He is lying! It’s because it’s the only way for him to meet girls (laughs)

Like Emma, Avril Lavigne is one of your biggest fans. Here we compare them a lot. What do you think of her?
Isaac: There is no comparison!
Taylor: Without wanting to be unkind, Emma is ten times cooler than Avril. She is unique.
