Hanson has grown up
Serious and critically acclaimed as musicians – but they still playâ€MMMBopâ€
The brothers Hanson are back, still young but now veterans. They are visiting Stockholm with their new album Underneath and a lot of things have changed.
The Oklahoma boys took Sweden by surprise in 1997 with songs as “MMMBop†and “Where’s the loveâ€. Isaac, now 24, Taylor now 21 and Zac now 19 are back in Sweden with more life experience. “We’ve evolved, and are much better at what we do, it’s a lot of fun to be on tour again†says Isaac when speaking to City.
Middle of Nowhere was a giant hit. But the next record was a flop and Hanson has been out of the spotlight during the past 4 years. “Ours and the record company’s ambitions wasn’t the same. We wanted to be independent not having to convince the company bosses we were good†says Isaac.
The life as a famous teenager isn’t something that Isaac misses. “I never wanted to be famous. Answering stupid questions from teen magazines is not something that I miss†says Isaac.
Last year, the album Underneath peaked at number 1 on Billboards chart for independent releases. The record is released on Hanson’s own record company and the album is written and produced by the brothers themselves. “This record is mellower than anything we’ve done earlier, it reflects how we’ve been and what we’ve been going throughâ€.
Is it still possible to hear MMMBop at a Hanson concert?
“Of course. Why wouldn’t we play it? A lot of people like the song and it show that it’s possible to make music that will be remembered for a long timeâ€.
