ShockHound Exclusive: Hanson Making Album Of Slipknot Covers

Apr 01, 2011 |

Hanson started out as a trio of brothers singing a capella harmonies, rose to multi-platinum fame as a teen pop band, and have since gone on to carve out their own successful niche as independent artists respected for their musical proficiency and their tireless charity work. And now, the boys who brought us "MMMBop" want to show us their MMMmetal side.

Several days ago, a mysterious video surfaced on the internet showing Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson in a hotel room, playing "Wait and Bleed," the lead single from Slipknot's self-titled 1999 debut. Though the brothers initially declined to comment on the leaked video (which you can watch below), they finally admitted to ShockHound yesterday that it was filmed on the road during the tour for their latest album, Shout It Out — and that they were practicing the 'Knot classic as a warm-up for their next album, which will consist entirely of Slipknot covers.

"We have always cited classic soul and rock and roll as an inspiration, but we have had long-time respect for heavy metal and bands like Slipknot who capture true angst," drummer Zac Hanson told us.

In a very special exclusive, the brothers have agreed to let us stream their pre-production demo of "Wait and Bleed" on ShockHound; just click the "play" button above to have a listen...and maybe have your mind blown, as well.

"This project has been in the works for some time," says guitarist Isaac Hanson. "When we saw there was a leaked video, we thought we should at least put up something that more accurately represents the project. It's still an early version, but we're excited about it — and we wanted ShockHound users to be the first to hear it!"

While there's currently no title or release date set for Hanson's Slipknot covers album, we have to say we're really looking forward to hearing their versions of "Skin Ticket," "The Heretic Anthem" and "People = Shit."
