Hanson opens their Brazilian tour in São Paulo
The concert marks the band's return to the country with the new album, Underneath

The band Hanson has performed the very first concert of their Brazilian tour on March 10th, in São Paulo. The acoustic show that took place at Tom Brasil Nações Unidas was watched by about 3 thousand people and brought the songs from their new album, recently released in Brazil after a long waiting period for their fans. During the last four years the brothers have dedicated themselves to the making of their new album as well as setting up their own record label, 3CG Records, after a turbulent separation from their old label.

On the concert, kudos for the pianist Taylor, who shows as much ability musically as with involving the audience on the many fun interactive moments during the concert. Good response from the public, lifted up by the new and energetic Lost Without Each Other, Rock'n' Roll Razorblade and Crazy Beautiful, devilish solo by the young pianist. Kudos also for the balcony structure at Tom Brasil, which resisted bravely through the strong waves provoked by the crowd's excitement during their favorite songs.

Included on the setlist were the rhythmic ones Hey and Penny and Me, the folk Strong Enough to Break (and its unusual mandolin), the title track Underneath and the bonus song Lulla Belle, played on the piano by the drummer Zachary. Special note to the covers of the Little Richard's upbeat tune Rip it Up and Bill Withers' Ain't no Sunshine, a bluesy choice that's a good fit for the vocals and acoustic guitar solo by the guitarist Isaac. Wrapping up the list come When You're Gone and Deeper, also from the band's new album.

The concert featured as well some of the high points of the band's musical career like Where's the Love, I Will Come to You, You Never Know, This Time Around and Mmmbop, the song that released the band into public success back in 1997.

On the stage, the good blend of dense, emotional moments to the more expansive ones held the audience's attention and had them pretty much responsive. Days after the concert, Isaac complimented on the public's involvement, sharing his surprise to realize everyone was singing enthusiastically to even the newest songs.

The songs performed by only the three band members on piano, acoustic guitars, drums and an occasional harmonica got on the stage a lighter and more raw instrumental base, based on involving melodic lines and pulsating rhythm. On the same level, it displayed for the fans and spectators present at the venue the brothers' vocal ability and performance, one of the band's strongest suits. An interesting return to a past of a rock'n'roll that's equally uplifting and invigorating.

Show marca o retorno da banda ao País com o novo CD, Underneath

A banda Hanson fez o primeiro show de sua turnê brasileira para o lançamento do CD Underneath, no dia 10 de Março, em São Paulo. O show acústico realizado no Tom Brasil Nações Unidas foi assistido por cerca de 3 mil pessoas, e trouxe ao público as novas composições do álbum recém-lançado no Brasil após uma longa espera dos fãs. Durante os últimos quatro anos, os irmãos se dedicaram à produção do novo CD e à montagem de seu próprio selo, o 3CG Records, depois de um turbulento processo de separação de sua antiga gravadora.

No show, ponto para a atuação do pianista Taylor, que mostrou domínio musical e da audiência, nas seqüências de brincadeiras envolvendo o público. Boa resposta da platéia, levantada pelas novas e enérgicas Lost Without Each Other, Rock’n’ Roll Razorblade e Crazy Beautiful, solo endemoniado do jovem pianista. Ponto também para a estrutura do balcão do Tom Brasil, que resistiu bravamente à oscilação provocada pela animação do público durante as músicas preferidas.

Na setlist apareceram ainda as ritmadas Hey e Penny and Me, a folk Strong Enough to Break (com direito ao inusitado tempero de um bandolim), a música-título Underneath e a faixa-bônus Lulla Belle, interpretada ao piano pelo baterista Zachary. Destaque também para as covers da animadíssima Rip it Up, de Little Richards, e da Ain’t No Sunshine de Bill Withers, blues que é uma pedida acertada para o solo na voz e violão do guitarrista Isaac. Completam a lista When You’re Gone e Deeper, também do novo álbum da banda.

O show contou ainda com a presença de algumas das mais marcantes músicas da carreira da banda, como Where’s the Love?, I Will Come to You, You Never Know e This Time Around, além de MMMBop, a música que lançou a banda ao grande público em 1997.

No palco, a mescla de momentos densos e emocionais aos mais expansivos garantiu o nível de atenção por parte da platéia, em geral bastante participativa. Dias após o show, Isaac elogiou o envolvimento do público paulista, mostrando-se surpreso ao perceber que todos cantavam entusiasticamente até mesmo as novas músicas.

A seleção apresentada pelos três integrantes da banda com piano, violões, percussão e uma ocasional gaita trouxe ao palco uma base instrumental mais crua e leve, baseada em envolventes linhas melódicas e ritmo pulsante. Da mesma forma, evidenciou ao vivo para fãs e curiosos presentes o trabalho vocal dos irmãos, um dos pontos de melhor desempenho da banda. Uma pequena e interessante volta ao passado de um rock animado e revigorante.
