Hanson’s making their way back!

They wrote the soundtrack of a generation. The brothers Hanson from Tulsa were the biggest ones of them all during a few years in the late 90’s. But the dream was shattered and since then they’ve been fighting to make a comeback. The record that they’ve done all by themselves is now here!

At the end of the 90’s they hit the world like nothing else. MMMBop only had to be played once on MTV and after that it was all chaos! The brothers Hanson became the biggest stars of them all overnight. OKEJ flew to London and was the first Swedish magazine to meet them and they made their OKEJ debut on the cover. That issue sold out in the stores! The Hanson fever was on it’s highest peak.

But after the second album This Time Around everything became different and since then the brothers have been working on their own. Now the work will show off, this year they’re making their comeback with Underneath, an album they’ve been working on for the past 5 years. They’ve done everything themselves, even the record company is their own and it’s worth all the commendation they can get.

OKEJ meets the guys at a promotion visit to Stockholm where they take the chance to play acoustic for a few fans.

-It’s nice to be back, says Taylor. We had a lot of difficulties with our record company which meant This Time Around never really got a chance. Despite all that, it sold one million copies, but they’d their hopes up for more. When all the trouble continued we decided to part ways and now we’re finally at our goal. It’s our biggest reward to know that our record is finally out.

It sounds nothing like the happy pop-rock band that was pumping out hits seven years ago. Hanson has always been musicians, doing what they’re doing not because of money or fame but because of their love for music and on Underneath they’ve been trying to create something really special. The songs are advanced, the sound is organic and plain. It’s not always that great and especially the sound of the drums is not that good but there are highlights like Broken Angel, a fantastic musical composition.

-That was the first song we wrote for the album, says Taylor. It led the way for the others.

During all these years Hanson have continued to tour the states. They even did a short tour in Europe which didn’t reach Sweden.

-We moved to New York and that’s our “home” these days, says Zac.

But honestly, don’t they miss the days as teen heartthrobs?

-No, not really says Isaac. It was a hard time, we like it this way much better. Today the fans can come up to us and talk about music, not just scream.

Outside of music Taylor has gotten married and has a son who is 2 and a half.

-That’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me! Ezra has given life a new meaning!

They guys are hoping to come back to Sweden for a real tour soon. They’ve actually never played a full concert here.

-But we know that we have a lot of fans in Sweden, says Taylor. We just hope the long wait has been worth all the trouble for all the people that still likes us
