Hanson has, of course, aged since it took over the summer of 1997 with the insanely cheerful "MMMBop."

Friday night at Cardinal Stadium, Isaac, Taylor and Zac were clearly full-grown Hansons (Zac's speaking voice sounds like thunder compared to his original squeak) ...

There was a fair amount to shriek about.

Even the older pop songs have been shored up considerably, toughened with an extra layer of guitars and aggression. It might have been the difference between live and recordings, but the Hansons definitely seem to have gotten harder as they have aged. A stellar cover of AC/DC's "It's A Long Way to the Top if You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)" proved that.

The new edge was nowhere more apparent than on "MMMBop," which now rocks far harder but still has a bubblegum center; it's a far better song now than when it was your secret favorite (just admit it).

Newcomer Michael Tolcher opened with a nice set that sounded like Dave Matthews with a much tougher rhythm section.
