Lancaster New Era

Jul 27, 2004 |

They came back.

The American Music Theatre presented Hanson last Saturday to a crowd of about 1,200 fans.

The band who launched the "Underneath Tour" on July 5 in South Carolina, made a stop in Lancaster after having visited the city's radio station, WLAN-FM97, in May.

The show itself was jam-packed with music from beginning to end, despite the fact that the doors opened at 7 p.m. and Hanson didn't take the stage until 10.

The three brothers, along with two backup musicians, belted out classic tunes like The Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin'," Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine," and Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered," along with material off of their new album, "Underneath," which debuted as number one on the independent release charts.

But the majority of the show was comprised of songs off of their first record, "Middle of Nowhere," which was a treat for Hanson fans, who haven't heard those songs played live in years.

The band's precursor to the "Underneath Tour" was a series of acoustic performances that took place last year and were set in small, intimate venues across the country. The "Underneath Tour" ends Sept. 4.

This time around, Hanson is doing it the old-fashioned way, electric guitars in tow and a full set on stage. One thing's for sure: Hanson fans -- old and new alike -- were not disappointed.
