I'll tell Joanne (@makisensei) about this post. She hasn't posted on HNET much (twice I think) but she is a facilitator at a school, and has been accepted (I think) to study teaching by correspondence, I think she's trying for next year. She's been wanting to apply for a couple of years but the practical component would be difficult with her job as it is.

For years I wanted to be a teacher (I remember in the mid 80's teaching my brother stuff sort of like a school type thing) but I had an interview once and was told that I probably wouldn't be able to handle the pressures.

@robinbond it can be a stressful situation to be in every day... I take a lot home with me - workwise and emotionally!

@btindel I teach Math 2 (NC uses an intergrated, common core style math). Basically it's part Algebra 1, part Algebra 2 part Geometry and part Trig and Stats. This is my 3rd year teaching. I have my undergrad in Business Management but couldn't do what I actually wanted  to do with it, so I changed careers and I love it. I love teaching high school, though. They are at the point where they can share some similar interest and most people think I'm a student myself, which is always nice, at 28 years old.

@rwagner that is awesome.. trig and stats, wow! I love the high schoolers too. I agree about being to relate. It has definitely been the best group for me as well!

@btindel My kiddos are the best. We listen to Disney songs and 90's radio all the time. Still can't get them to listen to Panadora's Hanson radio though. One day.. lol

I can't wait to get the String Theory album though. Definitely going to play the instrumentals while they are working/testing.

Yup...I graduated with a BA in Elementary Education & Special Education/Psych. I also have my Associates degree in Theatre/Speech. I subbed as a teacher and as a Para professional and have worked various summer programs as a Para Profesional with Elementary children in the classroom with special needs. I am currently looking for a Full time Teaching position. I've been going on interviews. :) It is really hard to get in Full time around here..

I teach middle school special education in a self-contained classroom.

I taught 1st grade for 3 years.  I loved actual teaching but couldn’t deal with behavior issues and lack of support from administration.  I would consider returning to the classroom if I could get a position at a good school.  If not I’ll continue to work at a bank.  It’s not nearly as stressful.

@mschristinacole that is wonderful... my M. Ed is in Special Education. I love working with students with disabilities. How many students do you have?

@scprincess I can totally understand that... I hope you are able to find a school that has a supportive administration! We need great teachers out there!

I enjoyed reading all your stories! I taught preschool. Also I was an infant toddler teacher which was my favorite. There were a few mean people at work so I left. I am back to teaching in my home at my home daycare. I have done that most of my adult life. I missed it terribly. It's great to be back. I loved being with my children every day and now I am with my grandchildren.
