The best part about this crazy job I have (thanks in no small part to all of you) is the chance to explore. I discovered roughly a decade ago that I not only liked making things, but I got great enjoyment from giving myself creative challenges. Without a stated goal I flounder a little, but give me a destination and I will become obsessed with getting there.
At the start of 2018 I started a personal project to create music in a way I had never explored, I wanted to do something long form, something that was not about the Intro, Verse, Chorus etc… structure that we have come to expect from pop music. Between other work for HANSON Day or for the 2018 tour or for the music we have been working on, or for the plans for Hop Jam or for Painting… you get the idea, I would basically steel away and continue to build something. I am calling it Turn Off The Machine.
I wrote a story about a man that builds a robot, and then asked myself what it should feel like. I tried to combines two musical worlds, organic and synthetic, and I build until I got tired of building or just ran out of bricks.
When HANSON Day got the biggest RSVP ever, and almost every event sold out we looked around and said what else can we do to make this year feel even cooler, and the robot on my shoulder said, what if?
Turn Off The Machine is under the Digital Pants umbrella, because Digital Pants songs are about Joy with very little oversight, and nearly no quality control.
The full thing is roughly 20minutes long, it has very few words almost no vocals, but it makes me smile. Listen at your own risk.
If you're coming to HANSON Day 2018 you can buy tickets to all the events HERE

"Joy with very little oversight, and nearly no quality control" is going to be the way I live my life from now on :)

I was wondering when we'd get something new for Digital Pants; I can't wait to hear this! Tripandglide, it's funny that you say you don't know if your attention span is long enough for this; most of the time "My Mind is Exploding" might as well be my theme song but this is one of the few things with which I'm not anticipating a problem, haha.

I could be wrong, but I read his stuff about "The biggest RSVP ever" as being more about last year than this year..kinda. Plus he mentions all of the things being sold out, which is what happened last year. People were going off last year because everything was sold out within minutes of the tickets going on sale. This year, Storytellers is still open, Leaders dinner, and the Dance Party (which I think all attendees have an option to buy), and now they have new things on top.
Before the new stuff, Karaoke, Bowling, and the Fan Club dinner were the only sell-outs. I'm shocked the Leader's dinner is still open, because those *always* sell out. Bowling has been a huge hit since it started, and the Vangard is not a big place, so anything they do there is going to have very limited availability, so Karaoke sells out fast, too.
So, like I said, I could be wrong and we could face the biggest crowd we've ever seen, but I think he was referring back to last year and so they decided to step up their game and add a few more things to the list just because things have been selling out and they want to have some things for people to do in case they missed out on those other ones.
If someone can correct me and he did mean this year, please feel free :)

Oh, he's talking about this year. The only reason Dance Party isn't sold out is because we changed venues this year. Otherwise it would have sold out at the same time as karaoke. Storytellers (old lectures) is always open to all who attend if they wish to purchase a ticket. The ST Leader's can't sell out - all ST leaders who attend can have a place at our leader's dinner.
