String Theory Opened A Door

Jan 10, 2019 | HANSON

We have been spending the better part of this week talking about projects and about what music we want to make this year.  Putting all the elements together can be tough, but the spirit that started with "I Was Born" is still the driving force and making bucket list ideas happen can take time.

I hope your holiday tan is looking good because just ahead is Back To The Island 2019. Even before that, we will be working on the yet untitled members EP as early as next week. Though we have not yet settled on the theme for the EP, what is clear is we are all very excited to be in the studio writing and recording, and getting the juices flowing for what comes next. String Theory has scratched an itch.  It has opened a door and made us ask ourselves what else have we wanted to do for years but never been able to realize.  Don’t worry, that does not mean we will only be making concept albums or musicals… but maybe… No, not really, maybe.

We are so excited to be taking String Theory off-continent with the EU and Australian tours.  Keep your eyes peeled for more info about HANSON Day this month and hopefully more tour plans announcing in the spring.

I want an ep with Zac singing songs hard rock style. Everyone I know loves bands like Metallica and Five Finger Death Punch. I'd love to surprise them with a Hanson album in this genre. Zac has the voice to accomplish this.  I would call it Kiss my Bass.

String Theory is a truly remarkable album, I love listening to it through headphones! I'm sure whatever you guys decide to put on the EP, it will be fantastic. I generally love the EPs with a variety of genres that's one of my favorite things about Hanson you're so versatile with your sound. KEEP REACHING FOR THE SKY!

I would like a rock and roll ep(a-la Nickelback or Shinedown) with several Isaac leads - the man can growl lyrics with the best of them!

Isaac, Taylor and Zac just nailed it last year at the NY State Fair with In The City and then the encore with Zach from Shinedown.  Of course, after success with String Theory, maybe this years ep may flow in that direction.

Hanson, you are very talented and creative. We all love your projects. It sounds like another awesome year in the world of Hanson! Yahoo! I miss having a Hanson calendar every year. It would be cool to Hanson Christmas Pajamas. I love your member eps and dvds.

I mentioned this in past YouTube comments already, but the last time I saw a show was back in 2013 in Edmonton (Sherwood Park). I believe that I had to skip a Japanese class in order to attend, lol! I have since graduated from university and relocated to Japan in January 2017. I first lived in Mishima, a town at the foot of Mount Fuji, before I returned to Tokyo. By the summer of that year, I found better work prospects in Nagoya, where I ultimately settled and still live today.

But these last two years in Japan did not come easy. I had a terrible work situation in Tokyo. If I Was Born wasn’t released when itwas, I would have abandoned my dreams in Japan and returned to Canada. The song gave me the push that I needed to keep going. Then in April 2018, I was hospitalized for a sudden onset of acute appendicitis. I delayed going to the hospital because I was in denial about what was happening to me. My appendix ruptured, but I am lucky to be alive because I was in the hands of amazing doctors and nurses here in Nagoya. My hospital stay was particularly special, but I want to save the details for a future project.

Between I Was Born, String Theory, and my hospitalization, these things reinforced the importance of valuing the time that we have on this Earth, and never allow self-doubt get in the way of pursuing your dreams. For this, thank you. I hope to see a show in Japan one day. I feel very lucky to be here.
