Way back in 1997, I was 7 and I can't remember how I first heard of them or what I was doing, but I do remember going to JB HiFi with my dad and buying MON when it was released. I stopped listening to them around '99 and it wasn't until I saw the 'If Only' video on TV in like 2001 that I got hooked again - the video took me completely by surprise. After that, I had to get a copy of TTA, which was really hard, but Target came to the rescue!

MON.

i was an eleven year old girl "in love with the drummer"

ps i thought i'd marry him one day.

&&

here i am....

however many years later...

oh the memories of my chidhood.

hah.

Thats me. I was 12. Adored Zac and thought he was the one hahaha. I saw them on TV on an ABC special and loved them ever since. I was a few months late I know that but not too much. You have to know that this is the first real band I ever listened to and we did not have cable and I didnt even have a radio or cassette player of my own. So if it wasnt for Hanson, I dont know when I would have gotten into music. They pretty much opened that door for me and I dearly thank them for it. We didnt have a lot of money but my dad did buy me their music and a player and it was all i needed. Until he also spoiled me more with magazines and shirts, everything Hanson. He put out a small fortune for my teeny bopper Hanson obsession. Now I put out a small fortune for them still to this day.

Mmm I think it wa 96 or 97.. My parents split and my dad would drive 3 hours to come get us, and he let us get a cd to listen to on the way there, and my sister picked up the Hanson cd and I've been hooked ever since. I was like 10 at the time. I think my fave song on the MON cd other than MMMBop was Madeline. I loved that song.

11 years of waiting, and finally my dream came true! I met HANSON! 9/21/08. They were amazing =] TYSM for that opertunity, it means more than anyone will know!

I bought their Underneath album in 2005 when I was 25 in Qatar (a little country off of Saudia Arabia). I hadn't really listened to their music prior to this, but I was told that Penny and Me was a great song, I gave it a listen and agreed. So when I saw their CD in the store I thought why not. I bought the CD then the DVD for Underneath and they were a calming influence during a very turbulent time and from there I was hooked.

I became a fan in sept. 2007 so it was The Walk Album and I was 17

I was on youtube and i saw their video on the side(don't remember if it was mmmbop or weird) so i clicked it

When i watched Weird I remembered hearing it a looong time ago and i really remembered seeing the video(my favorite song) I first saw it back in 97 and i did think they were girls not gonna lie

BUt for some reason i just really remembered the video and the song i had forgot about. However, i instantly LOVED the music!!

soooo i watched ALL of the videos and saw that they released a new album and I listened to Go and i loved that too

Then i went out and bought THe Walk and i found out that they would be in my hometown in tow weeks (didn't make it to the concert though)

and then i bought as many of their albums that i could find lol. And i luckily bought some used cd's that were in perfect condition (except middle of nowhere which skips:( ) and only about $4, well for TTA and underneath.

So i basically spent the first couple of months of my senior year watching videos on Hanson youtube to catch up on EVERYTHING that i had missed

It was bittersweet b/c i was soo happy of have found them but at the same time upset that i missed out on all these years...

THANK YOU YOUTUBE lol!

im so happy that i watched the video:)

oh and im proud to say that i  DID NOT judge them on mmmbop...i actually like that song but never paid attention to it 11yrs ago b/c i would just hear it around but never actually listened, all i knew was the main part mmmbop haha

Its sad that most people just judge them on that song

my manager told me that i liked a song(mmmbop) that didn't even have words. I was just like really? b/c im pretty sure its my senior quote (the first verse)

I was 22 when Mmmbop hit the airways, and I was more into classic rock and grunge at that time...Honestly, I didn't hate the song, but I would switch radio stations whenever it came on, which was so damn often, lol.

I didn't get into them until 2000.  I saw them on MuchMusic here in Toronto doing an interview, then they sang a couple of the TTA songs acoustically and I thought they were amazingly talented for their ages.  I went out and bought TTA and that was the only thing I listened to for like a year straight.  I couldn't believe that I never got sick of it, so I went out and bought everything else that they released before TTA at a used CD place (including Snowed In!) and honestly, I've never looked back.

Well I've known about them since I saw the MMMBop video when it first came out, must have been in '97 and I was 11. And I liked it at first, but then my cousin made fun of me and I didn't want anyone else to do that so I didn't really pay much attention to them. And I'm not gonna lie, I was definately more into the other boy bands like N'Sync and BSB. Then I saw the making the video for This Time Around and again I liked that song but it just didn't go beyond that. Then in 2004 when I was 18 I heard Penny and Me and it changed everything. I went and got Underneath and This Time Around and really liked them. Now I'm a huge fan and I'm sort of mad at myself for not being one from the beginning.

I can really relate to your story...I fell in love with Hanson all in one night...after the first video, I spent the next eight hours on the internet inhaling everything I could find and bought two albums.  I had only vaguely remembered hearing MMMBop on the radio years before (never been much of a radio person).

Me too...so happy I watched that video on muchmoremusic (Canada).  My life would be so different, and less somehow, had I not.

I know, it really is :).

And rlharris, I never judged MMMBop either...I thought it was cute and very clever for their ages...but i was into grunge and alternative rock back then, so it just wasn't gonna be an album to buy.  Even after becoming a fan in 2006, it took me a year or even two to really like listening to the "little boy voices" on the old songs.  These days, anything they do, new or old is shuffled on my MP3 player incessantly.

I thought this post was asking who became fans later on so I hadn't read it till now. But it looks like many are writing about becoming fans in the early years as well as later on so I guess I can add my comments. I'll try not to write so much.

In April/May of 97 when MMMbop was first  released I was sitting eating supper with my family and I saw the video for the first time on MTV. My 14 year old daughter was watching with me.

I was intrigued by these three young boys that seemed to be playing their own music and singing this catchy song that would later be permenantly imbedded in my head. My first thought was are they for real or just another created teenbopper band. And within a short period of time I found my answer.

Like many at the time there was a very brief moment I wondered if one of them might be a girl but quickly released that they were all boys. Since my daughter was around their age she was interested in them like all the young teen girls at that time. I was 39 at the time and it was kind of cool that me and my daughter began to have this common interest in Hanson. I became addicted to MMMbop, with grudge being so popular during that time this song was something refreashing and upbeat to listen too. A real feel good song that I think people needed at the time.

When Hanson was on a MTV special Scrapbook years ago they sang on the stage of the Sydney opera house. Not only were their harmonies amazing but Taylors vocals just blew me away. It never mattered that their voices were still high back then because I knew they all had real vocal talent.

Of course I bought MON shortly after it came out and for awhile my daughter and I tried to share it. But we both wanted to listen to it at the same time so I had to buy another one.  I think I listened to MON for three years straight while buying also buying all the other music that they put out.

I don't know how or why a person feels a connection to something but this is what happened to me with Hanson. I could go on and on about this but the rest is history. I've been an addicted fan from way back then and will always be.

I became a fan when Underneath came out.  I can remember when MON came out and my cousin was in love with the guys and we played house and I remember that she always made me be married to Taylor.  Then I lost track of them till one summer my friend asked me if I wanted to go to a Hanson concert with her, I thought it would be funny to tell people that I went to a Hanson concert so I decided to go.  Needless to say that I went to the concert and I have been a fan ever since.
I find hope and it gives me rest...I find hope in a beating chest...I find hope in what eyes don't see...I find hope in your hate for me...Have no fear when the waters rise...We can conquer this GREAT DIVIDE!
